Updated Checked Baggage Policy

Southwest remains committed to delivering value, but starting with flights booked on or after May 28, 2025, we are adjusting our checked baggage policy:

  • Two Free Checked Bags: Available for Rapid Rewards® A-List Preferred Members and travelers on Business Select® fares.
  • One Free Checked Bag: Provided to A-List Members and select customers.
  • One Checked Bag Credit: Offered to Rapid Rewards Credit Cardmembers.
  • All Other Travelers: Will incur fees for their first and second checked bags, with charges remaining for third and fourth checked bags.

This adjustment allows us to continue offering low fares while enhancing benefits for our most loyal travelers.

Fare Bundle Updates & Introduction of Basic Fare

We are evolving our fare structure to provide greater flexibility and choice for business travelers:

  • Phase 1 (Now in Effect)
    • Increased Rapid Rewards earn ratio on Business Select fares.
    • Reduced earn ratio on Wanna Get Away® and Wanna Get Away Plus™ fares.
    • Adjusted redemption rates based on demand periods.
  • Phase 2 (Effective May 28, 2025)
    • Introducing Basic Fare – Our lowest price point, with reduced flexibility.
    • New Flight Credit Expiration Policy – Expiration dates will vary based on fare type.
